Make Fabric Flowers

   Cut two 4 inch squares of fabric, two 3 inch squares of fabric and two 2 inch squares of fabric.

   Fold each square of fabric in half, then fold it in half again.

   Trim the unfolded edges of the fabric into a scalloped shape. (The scallops don't have to be perfectly even to make a nice flower shape.)

   Unfold the fabric, then cut slits between the scallops toward the center of the flower, without cutting the petals all the way apart. These slits will make it easier to fluff out the petals and make the flower more three-dimensional.

   Place the two large flower pieces on top of each other. Pull the petals of the lower flower up through the slits between the upper petals, to make the flower petals fluffier.

   Repeat step 5 with the pair of medium flower petals, and the pair of small flower petals.

   Stack the flower petal pairs on top of each other, with the largest petals on the bottom and the smallest petals on the top. Make sure the petal pairs are centered.

   Stitch the layers of the flower together through the center, using a few small hand stitches. Add a button to the center of the flower if you wish.
   

Euro Top Mattress Vs. Pillow Top Mattress

Mattresses come with a variety of top layers attached to them. These top layers, depending on their design, add varying amounts of cushioning to the mattress. While the construction itself may be of a totally firm mattress, the top layer can give one extra padding or the feeling of sinking into the mattress when getting into bed. Euro Tops and Pillow Tops are just two of the types of top layers available on mattresses.

Types

1. There are four primary types of mattress top layers available. The first type, known as Firm (also called Tight and Basic), generally has no additional cushioning or padding stitched onto the mattress top. There is no feeling of sinking into the material with most firm mattresses.
   
   The second type is the Plush Top. This is the softest and most cushioned of the mattress top layers available. It may be a few inches thicker than the other tops and gives the truest feeling of sinking into the material when one lowers oneself down onto it. It's extremely soft and fluffy.
   
   The third and fourth types are the Euro Top and the Pillow Top. They provide more cushioning than the Firm, and less than the Plush. The primary difference between Euro and Pillow is in the stitching, Euro tops are stitched directly to the mattress top with no additional materials or gap between the top layer and the mattress itself (reference 1).

2. You can identify the difference between Euro Top and Pillow Top mattresses by looking at the stitching and the area between the topping and the mattress frame itself. A Pillow Top topping is affixed to a layer all its own, which is attached to the mattress proper, with a gap between the two. A Euro Top mattress lacks the gap or additional material between the mattress frame and the cushioned top. A Pillow Top may appear to sit higher and be thicker than a Euro Top and may feel slightly more plush due to the added space between the two parts of the mattress (reference 1).

Size

3. Euro Top and Pillow Top mattresses come in all of the standard mattress sizes such as Twin, Full, Queen and King. A complete list of mattress sizes and dimensions can be found in the Resources section of this article.
   
   The height and thickness can affect mattress size. Plush and Pillow Top mattresses may be or at least appear to be few additional inches high and thick, while Euro Top mattresses, without the gap between mattress frame and top, are more slim-lined and may be similar in thickness to traditional Firm mattresses.

Considerations

4. When deciding between a Euro Top and Pillow Top mattress there are two things to consider, the first being how the size of the mattress is affected by what kind of top it has. While both mattress types offer similar cushioning and feel, the Pillow Top may require larger bedsheets due to the extra thickness because of the space between the mattress frame and the topping. The padding is similar with the Euro Top but it's achieved with less thickness.
   
   Also consider the aesthetics of the mattress. Pillow Top and Euro Top look slightly different due to the presence or lack of a gap and also due to the stitching. You may like one look better than the other. Also, while bedsheets will cover up these differences, the sheets could become bunched up in the gap in the Pillow Top construction.

Effects

5. One effect that is found with Pillow Top mattresses that may not be experienced with Euro Tops is that when a person lies in the middle of the mattress, the edges of the mattress may pull inward. This is due to the looser stitching of the Pillow Top design. This can contribute to the feeling of sinking into the mattress and also may make the bedsheets appear loose around the edges when in use

They frequent hiding areas like caves and rock ledges. The population of bobcats was almost erased in the 1800s when hunting them was popular. Now the population has grown back to a moderate amount.

The males of the species are usually around 130 pounds and they are significantly larger than bobcats. There is some controversy today over whether mountain lions still exist in the Catskills. Some people claim to have seen them recently.

This gives them the ability to adapt to changes in their habitat. In the early 1900s, the coyote population was threatened by wolves. However, the wolves were eventually hunted to extinction, allowing the coyote population to bounce back.

6. Watch where you step, because the Catskills host two types of poisonous snakes: the Timber Rattlesnake and the Copperhead. The rattlesnake is identified by its triangle-shaped head and the distinctive rattle on its tail. They come in black, yellow and tan varieties. Google Translate für iPhone im Kurztest: Nah dran an der Killer-App •

“Draußen scheint die Sonne” heißt auf Japanisch “太陽が外に輝いている” und auf Italienisch “Il sole splende fuori”. Zumindest laut Google Translate, das gestern nach Android auch für iOS-Geräte erschienen ist. Höchste Zeit für einen Kurztest: Die iOS-App orientiert sich an der Version für Android, kann Sprache erkennen und direkt in 23 Sprachen übersetzen. Erkannte Sätze liest die App in diesen 23 Sprachen auch vor. Das macht die Kommunikation mit ausländischen Mitbürgern leichter. Gravierender Nachteil allerdings: Die App funktioniert nur, wenn eine Verbindung zum Internet besteht, was die Nutzung etwa auf einem türkischen Basar ziemlich unbrauchbar macht – sofern kein WLAN- oder UMTS-Netz zur Verfügung steht.
Die App verlangt allerdings genaues, langsames Sprechen. Dann aber funktioniert Google Translate, oder “Übersetzer”, wie die deutsche Version heißt, recht zuverlässig. Man wirft mir oft vor, etwas undeutlich zu sprechen, was mich zum idealen Testkandidaten der App macht. Meine Fragen nach dem Weg zum Bahnhof, nach dem Wetter oder der Uhrzeit werden allerdings klaglos richtig beantwortet. Die Qualität der Ergebnisse lässt bei schnellem Sprechen, weniger benutzten Sätzen, lauten Hintergrundgeräuschen und Fremdwörtern im Satz nach. Auch Eigennamen im Satz stellen für Translate ein Problem dar.

Warum die nächste AppleTV-Generation eine Spielekonsole werden könnte •

Dünnes Eis, keine Fakten, aber genug Gründe für eine Vermutung: Apple könnte die nächste Generation von AppleTV zu einer Kombination aus Fernsehbox und Spielekonsole machen. Woher kommt nun wieder dieser abenteuerliche Idee? Werfen wir zunächst einen kurzen Blick auf die Marktanteile bei den Online-Videoverkäufen in den USA, die iSuppli in dieser Woche veröffentlicht hat: Demnach bleibt Apple 2010 Marktführer mit einem Anteil von 64,5 Prozent. Im Jahr 2009 gingen noch drei Viertel (74,4 Prozent) der Käufe über Apples Online-Ladentheke. Microsoft hat mit 17,9 Prozent Marktanteil (Vorjahr: 11,6) stark aufgeholt. Sony bleibt auf Rang 3 und erhöht den Marktanteil von 5,7 auf 7,2 Prozent.
WalMart taucht noch nicht in der Statistik auf, ist laut iSuppli aber einer der künftigen, wichtigsten Mitspieler über den zugekauften Dienst Vudu. Noob und Nerd: Gut gemachte Comedy-Serie über Techie-WG •

Die BT-Redaktion ist Fan von “Noob und Nerd”, einer Comedy auf dem Sender 1Live, die Anfang Januar gestartet ist. Seitdem gibt es fast täglich neue Folgen mit Gaststars wie Esther Schweins, Hella von Sinnen oder Bernd Stromberg (Christoph Maria Herbst). Aktuell in Folge 28 sind Ben Stiller und Robert de Niro zu Gast, oder zumindest ihre deutschen Synchronstimmen. “Noob und Nerd” erzählt die Geschichte von Manuél (Noob) und Dennis (Nerd), die sich eine WG teilen. HP stellt TouchPad, Pre3 und neues Kulthandy Veer vor •

HP hat heute Abend in San Francisco ein eigenes Tablet vorgestellt. Das TouchPad ist das erste seit der Übernahme von Palm durch HP und das erste Tablet überhaupt mit dem eigenen Betriebssystem webOS, hier in der Version 3.0. Es hat mit dem 9,7-Zoll-Bildschirm die gleiche Größe wie das iPad und eine Auflösung von 1024×780 Pixel bei einer Farbtiefe von 18bit. Es gibt eine Frontkamera mit 1,3 Megapixeln und Videotelefonie-Funktion und eine Micro-USB-Schnittstelle. Unter der Haube werkelt stolz ein Dual-Core-Prozessor mit 1,2 Gigahertz (Qualcomm Snapdragon). Es gibt mehrere Versionen des Tablets mit und ohne 3G-Mobilfunk und dann auch mit GPS. Als Speichergrößen stehen 16 oder 32 Gigabyte zur Auswahl. Über das Induktionsladegerät Touchstone, das als Extra verfügbar ist, soll das Aufladen der Batterie ohne Kabel möglich sein. Das Gewicht entspricht mit 740 Gramm etwa dem des iPad (730 Gramm mit 3G-Chip). Verfügbar sein soll das TouchPad ab Sommer. Preise nannte HP noch nicht.
Mit dem TouchPad lehnt sich HP funktionell und optisch stark an Apples iPad an. So hat auch das TouchPad nur einen einzigen Bedienknopf, der dem Home-Button des iPads ähnelt, der Rest funktioniert über Gestensteuerung und dem virtuellen Keyboard. Durch den Dual-Core-Prozessor soll reibungsloses Multitasking möglich sein. Hier wäre HP derzeit König. Und auch die Frontkamera hängt das erste iPad bislang ab. Allerdings dürfte der Starttermin hinter dem des iPad 2 liegen, das ab April und ebenfalls mit einer Front-Kamera erwartet wird. Die Produktion soll bereits begonnen haben. Das Motorola Xoom, das im März auf dem US-Markt erscheinen soll, läuft genau wie das TouchPad mit einem Dual-Core-Prozessor, wenn auch “nur” mit einem Nvidia Tegra 2 und 1,0 GHz.

Schaulaufen der Kandidaten: Jemand Interesse am 10-Milliarden-Netzwerk Twitter? •

Google, Facebook und noch ein drittes, nicht benanntes, Unternehmen sind an einer Übernahme von Twitter interessiert. Das meldet das “Wall Street Journal” heute. Ein Verhandlungspartner soll Twitters Wert auf 8 bis 10 Milliarden US-Dollar beziffert haben. Erst im Dezember hatte eine neue Finanzierungsrunde in Höhe von 200 Millionen Dollar Twitter auf einen Wert von 3,7 Milliarden Dollar gehoben. Das Unternehmen selbst sieht seinen potenziellen Wert bei 100 Milliarden Dollar. Twitters Umsatz im vergangenen Jahr betrug laut “Wall Street Journal” 45 Millionen Dollar; in diesem Jahr erwartet man 100 bis 110 Millionen Dollar. Willkommen in der neuen Webblase.
Die neue Bewertung soll unabhängig einer gestern erfolgten neuen Finanzierungsrunde von Andreessen Horowitz gewesen sein. Die Finanziers um Netscape-Gründer Marc Andreessen investierten 80 Millionen Dollar in Twitter. Eine Sprecherin des Kapitalgebers wollte aber nicht kommentieren, für wie viele Anteile das Geld geflossen ist. Geld macht Twitter bislang mit drei Werbeformaten: Promoted Trends, Promoted Tweets und Promoted Accounts. Mehr als die Umsätze hergeben, dürften Technik und Personal allerdings gleich wieder auffressen. Die Mitarbeiterzahl stieg im Laufe des vergangenen Jahres von etwa 100 auf 350. Was also würden Google, Facebook oder der ominöse Dritte mit Twitter anstellen? Wer wäre der geeignetste Kandidat?

HP im Glück: Farbtupfer und eigener Charakter dank webOS •

Dem mobilen Betriebssystem webOS mutet eine gewisse Tragik an. Es war bei seiner Vorstellung im Januar 2009 zusammen mit dem Palm Pre frenetisch gefeiert worden, erblickte dann aber bis zum Herbst des gleichen Jahres nicht das Licht des Marktes. So kam Apple dem Start von Palms letztem Hoffnungsträger Pre mit dem iPhone 3GS noch zuvor. Das Pre verkaufte sich nur noch leidlich, Entwickler programmierten zu wenig Anwendungen für webOS und Palm ging schließlich das Geld aus. HP rettete den Handheld-Pionier im April vergangenen Jahres mit einer Übernahme vor dem Aus – und war vor allem an einer Weiterentwicklung von webOS interessiert.
Gestern hat HP eine neue Generation von Smartphones und ein eigenes Tablet mit webOS vorgestellt. Es dürfte die letzte Chance für das Nischen-Betriebssystem sein, und es dürfte knapp werden. Denn das niedliche Veer in allen Ehren, das bereits im Frühling kommen soll. Aber das relevantere Tablet TouchPad soll erst im Sommer erscheinen, also wieder erst Monate nach der Ankündigung. Und das, obwohl HP bereits Monate lang an dem Tablet gewerkelt hat. Bis dahin dürfte Apple bereits mit dem iPad 2 auf dem Markt sein.

Nokia setzt auf Windows Phone 7: Willkommen Steve Ballmer, neuer starker Mann bei Nokia •

Es ist raus: Noch vor der heute angesetzten Konferenz um 10 Uhr in London haben Nokia und Microsoft eine gemeinsame Strategie vorgestellt. Die Finnen setzen auf ihren Endgeräten künftig auf Microsofts mobiles Betriebssystem Windows Phone 7. Nokia kündigte an, die Entwicklung von Windows Phone mit voranzutreiben und eigene Software auf Basis der Plattform zu entwickeln, die sich für die künftige Nokia-Smartphones eignet. Die Partnerschaft nutzt Microsoft weit mehr als Nokia, und wie es aussieht, hat Nokia-Chef Stephen Elop das noch nicht ganz realisiert.
Die Partnerschaft mit Microsoft soll über Windows Phone 7 hinaus gehen und eine Art freundschaftlichen Charakter erhalten. So wollen die beiden Unternehmen gemeinsame Marketinginitiativen fahren und einen gemeinsamen Entwicklungsfahrplan für mobile Produkte aufstellen, an den sich beide halten. Bing wird die Standard-Suchmaschine in Nokia-Geräten und -Services, Werbung in Suchergebnissen kommt künftig vom Microsoft AdCenter. Im Gegenzug setzt Microsoft auf Nokia Maps in der mobilen Bing-Suche. Der Windows Marketplace für Windows-Phone-Apps soll auch Nokia-Apps mit aufnehmen.

Neuer Markt Mini-Smartphones? Apple testet kleines iPhone, HP hat schon eins •

Da bahnt sich womöglich eine neue Smartphone-Kategorie an: Apple testet derzeit ein Mini-iPhone, das ein Drittel kleiner ist als das iPhone 4 und bis zu 200 US-Dollar kosten soll. Das meldet zumindest der Finanzdienst Bloomberg unter Berufung auf Personen, die über das Projekt informiert worden seien und einen Prototypen gesehen hätten. Der Prototyp dieses Mini-iPhones solle keinen Home-Button haben, dafür aber einen Dual-Mode für beide 3G-Standards UMTS/HSPA (Europa, Asien) und CDMA (USA). Allerdings seien derartige Projekte nichts außergewöhnliches. Apple teste oft Produkte, die dann nie das Licht der Welt erblicken. Es gibt wie immer Gründe, die dafür und dagegen sprechen. Nur eins scheint unwahrscheinlich: dass ein iPhone nano nur 200 Dollar kosten wird.
Bloomberg nannte als Argumentation für ein Mini-iPhone mit abgespeckter Hardware, dass Apple damit auf den Erfolg billiger Android-Geräte reagieren wolle. Dagegen spricht allein schon, dass Apple noch nie als Billigheimer unterwegs war. Egal ob iPod, iPhone, Mac oder MacBook: ein Schnäppchen sind und waren Apple-Produkte nie, stabile Umsätze gingen dem Unternehmen vor Marktanteilen. Dass Android Apple den Rang ablaufen wird und Apple das ziemlich egal sein wird, hatte ich im vergangenen Mai schon einmal prognostiziert. Unwahrscheinlich, dass Apple jetzt angesichts des Android-Erfolgs in Panik ausbrechen wird.

Facebook-Bewertung steigt auf 60 Milliarden Dollar: Tippt mit, ob die Blase platzt! •

Willkommen in der Blase, Freunde! Zahlreiche Investoren hätten Facebook gestern gebeten (!) Mitarbeiteranteile in Höhe von 1 Milliarde US-Dollar kaufen zu dürfen. Das meldet die für gewöhnlich gut informierte Kara Swisher von AllThingsDigital. Genau kommuniziert wurde nicht, auf wie viel Prozent der Anteile sich die Anfrage beziffert. Involvierte Personen der geplanten Finanzierung sprechen aber von 60 Milliarden Dollar, auf dessen Wert sich der Wert des Social Networks nun erhöhe. Erst Anfang Januar hatte Facebook frisches Kapital in Höhe von 1,5 Milliarden Dollar eingesammelt, das den Wert auf 50 Milliarden Dollar taxierte. Andere Anleger haben bereits Anteile zu einem Preis gekauft, der selbst 50 Milliarden lächerlich erscheinen lässt.
Wieviel Facebook umsetzt? Zwischen Januar und September 2010 sollen es rund 1,2 Milliarden Dollar gewesen sein bei 355 Millionen Dollar Gewinn. Das Netzwerk ist also profitabel. Hochgerechnet aufs Jahr wären das 1,6 Milliarden Dollar Umsatz. Gemessen daran, dass Facebook im vierten Qurtal voraussichtlich stärker gewachsen ist, können wir großzügigerweise auch von 2 Milliarden Dollar ausgehen. Die Bewertung von 60 Milliarden Dollar überstiege den Umsatz also um das 30-fache. Twitter wurde jüngst mit 8 bis 10 Milliarden Dollar bewertet, bei einem Umsatz von 45 Millionen im Jahr 2010 – das wäre im Schnitt das 200-fache des Umsatzes

Also kaum fünf Jahre nachdem die breite Masse sich überhaupt ins Web 1.0 gewagt hatte. Gemessen an dieser Zeitspanne lässt Web 3.0 erstaunlich lange auf sich warten. Das könnte damit zusammen hängen, dass die gleichen Theoretiker, die damals formulierten, was das Web 2.0 sei, sehr hohe, kaum erfüllbare Forderungen an die danach kommende Version stellten.
Wir sind heute ein ganzes Stück weiter als zu ursprünglichen Web-2.0-Zeiten, so weit, dass man bedenkenlos von einer neuen Generation des Webs sprechen kann. Vieles, was damals und in der Folgezeit als Charakter des neuen Webs beschrieben wurde, ist heute längst Standard, hat sich nicht durchgesetzt oder ist überholt. Der Schritt von Web 1.0 auf Web 2.0 war ungleich kleiner. Warum ich glaube, dass wir längst im Web 3.0 sind, soll euch dieser Beitrag verdeutlichen.

Nokia im Wunderland: Mitarbeiter protestieren, Intel ist brüskiert, WP7-Handys wohl erst 2012 •

Die am Freitag angekündigte Weltherrschaftskooperation mit Microsoft war erst der Anfang: Der Technik-Globus schien am vergangenen Wochenende alleine um Nokia zu rotieren. Die Aufräumarbeiten haben begonnen, es gibt viele Scherben zu kitten und eine Smartphone-Designstudie mit Windows Phone 7 haben die Finnen auf dem Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona gestern auch vorgestellt. Die Ankündigung der Partnerschaft am Freitag war bei Mitarbeitern und der Börse mit Unbehagen aufgenommen worden. Die Nokia-Aktie gab um glatte 14 Prozent nach, etwa tausend Mitarbeiter, die im finnischen Tampere am geschassten Symbian-Projekt hängen, gingen am Freitag aus Protest geschlossen frühzeitig nach Hause. Dass Nokia künftig auf Windows Phone 7 setzen wird, war offenbar nicht der gewünschte Selbstläufer.
Nokia-Boss Stephen Elop musste deswegen ein nicht ganz unbedeutendes Detail der Kooperation hinzufügen: mit etlichen Millionen US-Dollar, vielleicht sogar Milliarden, würde Microsoft Nokia die Zusammenarbeit versüßen. Genaue Zahlen nannte Elop aber nicht. Er wehrte sich auch gegen die Vorwürfe, er sei ein trojanisches Pferd, das nun Microsoft bei Nokia die Tür geöffnet habe. Elop kam im September direkt von Microsoft zu Nokia und beerbte Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo. Angeblich habe auch Google mit um die Gunst bei Nokia mitgeboten, damit Android statt Windows Phone 7 künftig auf Nokia-Smartphones zum Einsatz kommt. Zwischen den beiden Unternehmen soll es einen regelrechten Bieterwettstreit gegeben haben. Nokia habe sich gegen Android entschieden, damit auf dem Markt kein Duopol aus Google und Apple (iOS) entstehe.

Die weltgrößte Mobilfunkmesse Mobile World Congress (MWC) hat heute in Barcelona begonnen. Bereits gestern haben Samsung und Sony-Ericsson neue Geräte vorgestellt. Highlight darunter ist Samsungs erstes 10-Zoll-Tablet, das GalaxyTab 10.1. Der Name orientiert sich am Touchscreen, der bei einer scharfen Auflösung von 1280×800 Pixeln genau 10,1-Zoll misst, könnte aber auch ein Fingerzeig dorthin sein, dass das Tablet im Gegensatz zu Apples iPad Flash 10.1 unterstützt. Betriebssystem ist Android 3.0 “Honeycomb”. Unter der Haube werkelt ein 1-GHz-Dual-Core-Prozessor von Nvidia (Tegra 2). Auffällig gering ist das Gewicht von nur 599 Gramm im Vergleich zu Apples iPad (mit Mobilfunkchip 730 Gramm). Es kann mit einer 8-Megapixel-Hauptkamera HD-Videos aufnehmen und mit einer 2-Megapixel-Frontkamera Videotelefonie anbieten. Was allerdings fehlt, ist ein GPS-Sensor. Preise nannte Samsung nicht.
Des weiteren stellte Samsung das Galaxy Tab WiFi vor, eine preisgünstigere Variante des ersten Galaxy Tab mit 7 Zoll. Dem neuen Gerät fehlt ein Mobilfunkchip, ins Internet geht man mit WiFi. Neu ist auch das neue Smartphone-Schlachtschiff Galaxy S2. Es ist dünner und leistungsfähiger als sein Vorgänger Galaxy S. Der Amoled-Bildschirm bietet ein klareres Bild dank mehr Subpixeln. Statt des 1-GHz-Prozessors des Vorgängers ist diesmal ein Dual-Core-Prozessor mit gleicher Taktrate verbaut. Auch das Galaxy S2 verfügt über eine 8-Megapixel-Kamera, die HD-Bilder aufnehmen kann. Betriebssystem ist Google Android 2.3 “Gingerbread”, das Samsung mit einer eigenen Touch-Wiz-Oberfläche (in der Version 4.0) anwenderfreundlicher machen will.

Facebook belebt das Geschäft: 64,4 Prozent Nutzungsanteil in Deutschland •

In Deutschland war Facebook bislang weniger dominant als in anderen Ländern. Bislang. Denn nach einer heute veröffentlichten Studie der Marktforscher von Fittkau & Maaß stellt das US-Netzwerk auch in Deutschland alle anderen in den Schatten und erreicht einen Nutzungsanteil von fast zwei Dritteln (64,4 Prozent) unter den Social-Network-Nutzern in Deutschland. Xing folgt auf Platz 2 mit 18,4 Prozent, Wer-kennt-wen erreicht 15,8 Prozent. Erst dahinter platzieren sich MeinVZ (13,1 Prozent) und StudiVZ (12,5). Zahlen über SchuelerVZ fehlen in dieser Statistik. Insgesamt dürften also noch rund ein Drittel des deutschen Marktes die VZ-Netzwerke nutzen. Mehrfachnennungen waren möglich.
Die Zahlen errechnen sich an der Gesamtnutzung der deutschsprachigen Social-Network-Nutzer, wie mir Fittkau&Maaß-Geschäftsführer Holger Maaß gerade am Telefon erklärte. Die Marktforscher haben 105.163 deutschsprachige Internetnutzer gefragt. 39,2 Prozent davon nutzen Social Networks mindestens einmal wöchentlich. Von diesen 39,2 Prozent nutzen eben 64,4 Prozent Facebook. Befragt wurden die Teilnehmer der Studie zwischen Oktober und November 2010. Genaue Vergleichszahlen zum Vorjahr fehlen im Blogeintrag zum kostenpflichtigen Report. Vor einem halben Jahr allerdings lag Facebooks Anteil anhand vergleichbarer Zahlen noch bei 45,5 Prozent, StudiVZ folgte auf Platz 2 mit 20,4 Prozent.

Seid umschlungen, Milliarden: Zynga auf 7 bis 9 Milliarden Dollar bewertet •

Und täglich grüßt die Seifenblase: Der Social-Games-Anbieter Zynga hat laut Informationen des “Wall Street Journal” 250 Millionen US-Dollar Kapital eingesammelt. Das würde den Wert des Farmville- und Cityville-Anbieters auf 7 bis 9 Milliarden taxieren. Zynga wäre damit ungefähr so viel Wert wie Twitter (8 bis 10 Milliarden Dollar). Facebook ist weiterhin Krösus mit einer Bewertung in Höhe von 60 Milliarden Dollar.
Der “Business Insider” hat dazu passend heute den Dienst “Bubble Watch” eingeführt. Verhindern kann man das endlose Aufblähen der Blase wie anno 2000 wohl nicht mehr. Aber dann soll hinterher wenigstens keiner sagen, wir hätten es weder kommen sehen noch davor gewarnt. Einen kleinen Unterschied zum Jahr 2000 gibt es diesmal aber: Die Unternehmen erwirtschaften zum Teil reale Umsätze und Gewinne, wenn auch nicht so viel, wie sie anhand der Bewertung eigentlich müssten. Zynga bringt es auf immerhin 400 Millionen US-Dollar Gewinn im vergangenen Jahr, bei einem Umsatz von 850 Millionen. Facebook dürfte gut 1,6 Milliarden Dollar Umsatz gemacht haben. Lediglich Twitter fällt mit 45 Millionen Dollar Umsatz ein wenig raus. Allerdings soll das erst sehr junge Monetarisierungsmodell des Kurznachrichtendienstes mit Einnahmequellen wie “Sponsored Trends” inzwischen gut laufen.

Statt in den Elektronikfachmarkt um die Ecke gehen Freiberufler und Selbstständige jetzt lieber gleich in die Cloud. Hier gibt es nämlich moderne und benutzerfreundliche kaufmännische Programme, die Flexibiltät statt Frust versprechen. Einer der Pioniere auf diesem Gebiet ist die junge Bonner Softwareschmiede Scopevisio, die eine neuartige Business-Software in der Cloud entwickelt. Dazu zählt unter anderem eine Buchhaltungs- und Rechnungssoftware, die wohl ohne Zweifel als „stylish“ durchgehen kann. Hier waren Designer am Werk, die der Überzeugung sind, dass auch Buchhaltungssoftware Spaß machen darf. Und das Ganze gibt´s auch noch für umsonst: Die Scopevisio Online-Buchhaltung für die Einnahmenüberschussrechnung ist kostenlos, das zugehörige Online-Rechnungsprogramm kostet 2,99 Euro im Monat.

HTC stellt Salsa und ChaCha vor: Hände weg von den “Facebook-Phones”

HTC hat auf dem Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona die beiden Smartphones Salsa und Chacha mit einem Instant-Facebook-Button vorgestellt. Es sind wieder keine offiziellen Facebook-Handys, an denen das Social Network in der Entwicklung beteiligt gewesen wäre. Zumindest wollen wir das nicht hoffen, denn eine Schönheit sind die beiden Geräte aus subjektiver Sicht nicht. Gestern war Valentinstag, und es kommt auf die inneren Werte an? Leider können Salsa und Chacha auch da nicht mit einem liebenswürdigen Charakter punkten.
Das Salsa hat einen Touchscreen mit 3,4 Zoll, aber nur eine Auflösung von 480×320 Pixeln. Zum Vergleich: Das HTC Desire HD hat 800×480 Pixel. Es werkelt ein ebenfalls recht schmalbrüstiger Single-Core-Prozessor mit 600 MHz unter der Haube. In Ordnung klingen dafür die Eigenschaften der Hauptkamera mit 5 Megapixeln und Blitzlicht, dazu eine Frontkamera für Videotelefonie mit nicht näher bestimmter Pixelzahl. Das HTC ChaCha ist ein Smartphone mit QWERTY-Tastatur und 2,6-Zoll-Touchscreen ebenfalls mit 480×320 Pixeln Auflösung. Hier ist der gleiche Prozessor mit 600 MHz Taktrate verbaut. Auf beiden Geräten, die in Europa und Asien im zweiten Quartal 2011 auf den Markt kommen sollen, soll Google Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread in der aktuellen Version) installiert sein.

Skype und Telekom einen Schritt voran auf dem langen Weg zum Überall-Internet •

Skype wird künftig über 500.000 Hotspots nutzbar sein. Die Telekom bietet eine mobile Quasi-Datenflatrate für Europa. Beide Meldungen haben eine kleine Gemeinsamkeit: Sie bringen das Überall-Internet zumindest ein Stück weit voran. Skype etwa stellt seinen Kunden einen Internetzugang über eine Erweiterung des Hotspot-Partnerprogramms sicher. Nutzer können sich über angeschlossene Hotspot-Netze einen Zugang kaufen und dann über Skype Access ins Netz gehen. Die Kooperation ermöglicht die Nutzung von 500.000 Hotspots weltweit, wie in 500 Flughäfen und 30.000 Hotels. Das Programm besteht bereits seit 2009, die neuen Partnerschaften erhöhen das bisher kaum wahrnehmbare Angebot aber enorm.

Ideenmanagement als nächstes großes Ding: Ahhha sucht Ideen und macht sie zu Geld •

Manche Ideen sind so gut, man könnte sie direkt umsetzen. Mit allem, was dazu gehört: Investoren, Designern, Technikern, Marketing. Das ist die Geschäftsidee des jungen Startups Ahhha aus Palo Alto in Kalifornien. Nutzer können ihre Ideen über ein Formular beim dem Startup einreichen und entweder veröffentlichen oder privat halten. Öffentliche Ideen kann man von anderen Nutzern bewerten lassen. Gefällt Ahhha der Vorschlag, versucht das Team ihn umzusetzen. Der Ideengeber wird dabei allerdings nur mit 1 Prozent (!) beteiligt. Den Rest teilen Ahhha und die Fachkräfte unter sich auf, die das Projekt letztlich umsetzen. Um diese geringe Beteiligung zu begründen, zitiert Ahhha Thomas Alva Edison: “Genie ist 1 Prozent Inspiration und 99 Prozent Transpiration.”
Ahhha ist offiziell erst am vergangenen Freitag gestartet und noch in der geschlossenen Beta-Phase, die aber eher wie eine Alpha-Version anmutet. Reicht man eine Idee ein, stimmt man der 1:99-Prozent-Verteilung automatisch zu. Man kann dann an Hand von vier Stufen (öffentlich, halb-öffentlich, eher privat und privat) entscheiden, wer seine Idee zu sehen bekommen soll. Feedback von anderen gibt es aber natürlich nur, wenn andere Community-Mitglieder die Idee zu Gesicht bekommen. Der Registrierungsprozess ist denkbar einfach. Noch bevor man sich anmeldet, kann und soll man bereits seine Idee einreichen, noch ohne zu wissen, was eigentlich damit passiert.

Apple führt 30-Prozent-Anteil für Abos ein. Kompromiss, der Verlagen nicht gefallen wird •

Apple hat heute Nachmittag das erwartete neue Abo-Modell für den App-Store vorgestellt. Im Großen und Ganzen sagt Apple damit, dass Inhalteanbieter 30 Prozent ihrer Einnahmen aus In-App-Verkäufen an Apple abgeben müssen. Wenn die Kunden Apples Abo-Modell dafür nutzen, was sie aber nicht müssen. Geschieht der Kauf eines Videos, einer digitalen Zeitschrift oder Musik über den App Store, behält Apple 30 Prozent. Das ist das Modell, das gerade Zeitungs- und Zeitschriftenverlage im Vorfeld scharf kritisiert haben. Betroffen wären aber auch andere Bezahldienste wie Netflix (Spielfilme und Serien), Amazon (Ebooks) und weitere E-Book-Angebote.

Und die Initiative sieht nichts weniger vor, als Nokia-Chef Stephen Elop zu stürzen. Sollten sie mehrheitlich in den Vorstand gewählt werden, würden sie außerdem die Lebensdauer von Symbian auf mindestens fünf Jahre verlängern und MeeGo zur dominanten Plattform erheben. Die Zusammenarbeit mit Microsoft solle sich primär auf den nordamerikanischen Markt konzentrieren, der ohnehin überbewertet wäre. Künftig solle sich Nokia wieder auf die eigentlichen Kernmärkte konzentrieren, schreiben die Rebellen.

Vodafone startet Hybrid-Fernsehen: Internet wird nicht mehr verstopfen •

Internet und Fernsehen wachsen zusammen. Endlich. Während Google es nicht schafft, sich für sein Google TV mit Contentlieferanten zu einigen, ist die Konkurrenz ein Stück weiter. Boxee etwa, Fernsehhersteller wie Samsung mit Samsung Apps oder Panasonic mit Viera Connect. Jeder kocht sein eigenes Süppchen. Ein schöner Vorstoß ist in dem Zusammenhang Vodafone TV, ein Hybrid-Angebot aus Internet und Kabelfernsehen oder Satellit über die Vodafone Easy Box. Vodafone TV verbindet dabei das frei empfangbare Fernsehen mit kostenpflichtigen Filmdownloads aus der Vodafone Videothek und HD-Kanälen über einen DSL-Anschluss. Das Neue an dem heute vorgestellten Angebot ist die Vereinigung von Kabel, Satellit und Online-Videothek in einer Benuteroberfläche.
Zwölf Sender bietet Vodafone dabei außerdem in HD-Qualität über den DSL-Anschluss an: RTL, SAT.1, ProSieben, VOX, kabel eins, Sport1, sowie sechs Programme aus dem Fundus von ARD und ZDF wie ZDF neo. DSL mit 10 Mbit/s ist für den HD-TV-Empfang Minimalvoraussetzung. Alternativ holt sich die Box die Sender in HD-Qualität über den Satellitenanschluss, wenn dieser verfügbar ist. Für die digitale Videothek reichen 2 Mbit/s aus, Vodafone bietet aber offiziell nur noch DSL-Anschlüsse ab 6 Mbit/s an. Das Angebot startet morgen, kosten soll es 39,95 im Monat inklusive DSL-Anschluss und Doppelflatrate (Internet und Telefon). Vodafone-DSL-Bestandskunden können Vodafone TV für einen Aufpreis von 10 Euro im Monat nutzen. Die Box mit 320 GByte Speichervolumen kann als digitaler Videorekorder benutzt werden und ermöglicht auch zeitversetztes Fernsehen .
